May 2012. Thank you to the amazing teachers at Hamden Hall. Their devotion, their standards of excellence and respect, their enthusiasm, their ingenuity, all contribute to my daughter’s love of learning, her excitement in taking on challenges and her being an intelligent and compassionate person.
August 2011. Before becoming a parent of a Hamden Hall student, I knew that it was a school with high academic standards that offered a well-rounded curriculum and placed an emphasis on team sports and physical fitness. I knew that my children would have the opportunity to work in small classes, getting a lot of interaction with and attention from their teachers, and that they would be immersed in the Haskins reading program, a literacy curriculum developed through scientific research on the brain and on how children acquire language and decode text. What I didn’t anticipate, was that my children would quickly become part of a close knit learning community and have friends and mentors of all ages through cross curricular units of study and “buddy” systems that allow students to learn from and teach each other. I didn’t anticipate that classroom and specialist (arts, phys.ed, music,) teachers would be able to reinforce learning across disciplines through unit based study. Hamden Hall has exceeded all of my expectations. As a parent, I always feel welcome at the school, and teachers communicate thorough information regarding their expectations, student learning objectives, and ways in which parents can be involved as members of this vibrant learning community. Learning in the early elementary levels is balanced between structured academic work and unstructured, exploratory play, and special attention is given to students’ social and emotional growth. As I anticipate my children’s progression through their academic careers at Hamden Hall, I know they will be challenged academically, I know that they will be known as individuals, and I know that they will be offered numerous opportunities to expand their learning outside of the classroom setting through volunteer work, field trips, guest speakers, and partnerships with community organizations. In addition to excellent preparation for college, I know that the Hamden Hall experience will allow my children to remain inquisitive and creative, while developing the necessary skills and understanding they need to be active, reflective, informed members of their community.
