Grandmother’s Day Care, Hamden

May 2014. Alanna really is an amazing care provider. The children go for walks daily, play in the back yard, and go to the nearby playground. They do seasonal activities like planting flowers in the spring, bird watching in the summer, visiting pumpkin patches and apple orchards in autumn, and making holiday ornaments in winter. She expects them to be polite, assist with setting and clearing the table, and cleaning up toys, books, and craft supplies when they are done. My 4 year old knows and writes the alphabet, reads short sight words, and counts to 20+ thanks to Alanna’s work with him. She can only take a small number of children, and the children become good friends and playmates, and the older ones are very solicitous of the one infant/baby who is there.
Alanna has also been wonderfully flexible about shifting schedules with the school year (my husband and I are both academics and have different schedules every semester), and we have appreciated that very much. She has room for alumni to come back in the summer when they are out of school, and it is nice for the children to return to a familiar place. Katherine B., parent
June 2011. Alanna Griffin is the owner operator of Grandmother’s Day Care, a licensed home day care in the Whitneyville section of Hamden. She has been in business for well over 15 years, and provides a loving, developmentally-appropriate, nurturing environment, in her comfortable old home. Our daughter was there full-time for three years, and she grew so beautifully under Alanna’s gentle (but firm) wing. Because Grandmother’s Day Care is licensed, she can only take a small number of children, so it is difficult to get a spot, but keep trying and you may just get lucky like we did.
