RESTAURANTS & CAFES

Bloodroot Vegetarian Restaurant (Bridgeport)
“. . . a feminist restaurant and bookstore with a seasonal vegetarian menu”

Blue State Coffee (New Haven)
Fair-trade coffee for parents and locally-sourced breakfast and lunch bites for all. With the goal of being a “zero waste” business, everything they sell is consumable, commercially compostable, recyclable, or reusable. Two locations; note that the Wall Street store has un-stroller-friendly steps.

Caseus (New Haven)
Enjoy seasonal menus focused on  organic and locally-procured ingredients and artisanal cheeses at the bistro/fromagerie. Caters to sophisticated palates and is often booked up solid, so probably best for a date night (i.e. call on a sitter and treat yourself!).

G-Zen in Branford is a new restaurant run by the former chef/co-owner of ION in Middletown…it is vegan and vegetarian I believe, just opened up a few mos. ago…Haven’t tried it yet, but with Mark Shadle as the head chef, it is bound to be good…

Udupi Bhavan in Middeltown, Ct, is great for Indian style “pure veg” (i.e. veg + gee and without onions and garlic) cooking.

Thanks, Samantha. That is too bad, I didn’t get there often, but always enjoyed it. ~G.M.
