Thanks, Ellen! If you are buying stainless steel containers, be aware that some are air/liquid tight, but others (they will say so) are not. We use both--the latter are fine for apple chunks or crackers or hummus sandwiches. Haven't actually seen a s.s. lunch box set--wonder if you could create your own . . . --G.M.

Lots of good ideas here! Reading this inspires me to look for a stainless steel lunch box dish set for our 2 yo. Musing aloud about it, my husband, born in Calcutta nostalgically remarked " I grew up eating on stainless steel plates and cups, and I like that my son will now start doing the same." (India recycles almost everything.)

Also, love the idea of wrapping gifts in old cloth. Easily made pretty with excess yarn & ribbon.

This site is going to be a lot of fun to check in on!

The link for CDC developmental milestones listed above is incorrect; it should be:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html

Other than that, this is a really useful list! Thanks!

Sam--Great suggestion! I'd forgotten they do that. I think they also sell bread from Judies bakery. I'll start putting together a local food buying guide to go along with the Natural Markets page and the info on farmer's markets that's in the works. Thanks!

Whitneyville Food Store in Hamden sells milk from a CT farm (in returnable glass bottles - bonus!), and I believe several of their cookies are from local bakeries, too.

It IS silly. And true. I've never thought about plastic surgery in those terms before. Amusing and thought-provoking. Thanks.

Lucy, the program will be good for your 12-year-old son. Though we have some arts & crafts geared for younger kids, we will have a special paper cutting workshop at 12 pm! Plus, there will be some tasty treats to try out. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Hope to see you there!
