Veterans Day  is celebrated today in recognition of the date World War I ended – November 11, 1918.  Fighting ended on the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month.  In 1919 President Wilson declared November 11th as a day for Americans to be reminded of the tragedies of war and “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace.”  Today, Veterans Day also recognizes the courage of all men and women who have served our country in the U.S. Military.  It is a day of reflection, recognition and an opportunity to show our gratitude.

If you would like to thank our troops for their service, courage and tireless efforts, you can.  Follow this link to the U.S. Department of Defense to ‘Send the Troops a Message.’ This is a easy way to say thank you to our soldiers, particularly if you don’t have a direct connection with someone that is currently serving our country.  More importantly, it is a great way to show your children that saying ‘Thank You’ is not only polite, it’s the right thing to do.
